4th of July weekend

This year for the 4th of July I wanted to take a more historical approach. I wanted my kids to learn the real meaning of why we celebrate the 4th. We started off the week with the patriotic service at the Marriott Center at BYU. Steve Young was the keynote speaker (which is partly why I wanted to go) but the meeting itself was amazing. I had tears in my eyes for a good portion of the meeting. It was great to hear some uplifting music by some very talented artists. All of the speakers were great too.
On Friday we attended Ellis Island in the park. We were able to go through a fake Citizenship test, we had our knowledge tested about many facts. We also attended a wonderful play called Cries of Freedom. I learned so much from this play. It started with the revolution in Europe and why the people wanted to get away to find religious freedom, and then ended with Francis Scott Key and the Declaration.

There was also a little village to visit with many colonial activities. We were there for almost 5 hours and could have stayed longer.

Friday evening we went participated in the great American pastime, baseball. The Owlz won and put on a great fireworks show.

The next morning we were up bright and early to attended the balloon fest in Provo. Due to the wind they were only able to launch 3 balloons that morning but it ended up being so much fun because everyone left and we had a lot of space to wander around as they would put the balloons up and then pull them back down because of the wind.

Saturday we also had a family BBQ and watched PGs fireworks for Grandma Woffinden's yard. It is was a lot a fun spending time with everyone that day.

Sunday was spent with family as our little nephew Dreagon was blessed.

Monday was the grand parade where Sidney marched. That afternoon we saw how to train your dragon and then visited the rest of the evening.

Very busy but fun weekend. Only bad point is Sidney ended up getting sick. :(
